First step of double cleansing: what are oil-based make-up removers?

Don't let the name put you off, they're just cleansers with oil in their formula to help remove make-up, traces of sun cream, pore-clogging pollution and other impurities from your skin. Use them in the first step of your skincare ritual (ideally both day and night) to cleanse thoroughly and prevent blemishes while prepping your skin for the rest of your routine.

These formulas are usually very gentle, so won’t dry out or irritate your skin.

What makes a good eye make-up remover?

Our oil-based cleansers are suitable for the eye area, so you don't need a specific product to remove eye make-up. The most important thing is that your chosen product fulfils its two essential functions: removing traces of make-up and sunscreen, and cleansing inside the pores, which is where dirt accumulates, forming those dreaded blackheads.

If you wear waterproof or long-lasting make-up, MiiN highly recommends double cleansing twice a day to remove any last traces of product and deeply cleanse the pores without irritating your skin or leaving it feeling greasy.

Do you need to use an oil-based cleanser in your skincare routine even if you don’t wear make-up?

Absolutely! Even if you don’t wear make-up, an oil-based cleanser is still recommended as the first step of your double-cleansing routine. We learned this from Korea: using an oil-based make-up remover before your regular water-based cleanser provides a more effective cleanse, preventing blocked pores and prepping your skin for the next steps in your routine.

Remember, it’s not just the make-up you put on your skin: by the end of each day, your skin has accumulated sweat, sunscreen, pollution and dust, which a single cleanser will struggle to remove as effectively. And applying other products is a waste of time unless your skin is squeaky-clean!
