What is cleansing oil?

Cleansing oils are cleansers with an oily texture. Although these formulas may look and feel like an oil, their density, lightness and level of wateriness can vary. They're usually rich in plant oils that emulsify on contact with water, making them easier to massage over your face. What's more, they wash off easily, leaving your skin feeling clean, soft, and free from irritation or impurities.

How much cleansing oil should you apply?

Normally a 10p coin-sized amount is enough to remove make-up, but if you're wearing waterproof or long-lasting formulas (some lipsticks can be trickier than others), two pumps should be plenty to get the job done.

Don't worry too much about the amount you use because you'll be rinsing it off with water, so it won't leave any oily residue on your skin.

Will using a cleansing oil make your face greasy?

Not at all! Cleansing oils won't make your skin feel greasy, on the contrary: they'll help remove impurities from your pores and control shine and excess oil. You always rinse off oil-based cleansers, completely removing them without a trace. So, as long as they’re part of a double-cleansing routine and washed off with a water-based cleanser afterwards, there’s no need to worry about greasy skin!

In fact, if you have oily skin, the oil texture will help you regulate sebum even better.

What oils are used in facial cleansers?

Cleansing oils usually contain different plant oils in their formulas, which are ideal for cleansing the skin and leaving it soft and moisturised. Here are some of the most common plant oils in our oil cleansers:
